CALGARY — Canada’s alpine ski team has added two experienced World Cup coaches to help guide both the men and women’s technical teams as they seek to build on last season’s record haul of 14 World Cup podiums.
Wolfgang Erharter will head the men’s technical team, while Bozo Jaklin will lead the women’s tech team, Alpine Canada Alpin officials announced recently. Erharter, who was most recently the head coach of Germany’s men’s technical team, has several years of coaching experience with the Austrian, German and U.S. teams. Jaklin spent the past five years as a World Cup assistant coach and Europa Cup head coach with Finland’s men’s team and also has coached with the Japanese national team.
The new coaches will work with a pair of returning head coaches, Paul Kristofic on the men’s side and women’s head coach Marjan Cernigoj.
“With their World Cup coaching experience and skills, Erharter and Jaklin will provide tremendous benefit to our veteran racers as well as guiding some of our younger skiers to push their limits. Ensuring that we continue to make strides in the technical disciplines is an important step as the Canadian team pursues our goal of becoming the best in the world,” said Canadian Alpine Ski Team Alpine Director Dusan Grasic.
Women’s speed team head coach Heinzpeter Platter and men’s speed team head coach Lionel Finance are also back this season.
The Women’s 2010 Acceleration Team, a newly expanded development team of high potential athletes, will be lead by Pavel Stastny, an experienced World Cup coach who most recently was head coach at the Stratton Mountain School in Vermont. On the men’s side, Peter Rybarik returns as head coach of the men’s development team.
