Disabled World Cup: Austria edges U.S. for season point title{mosimage}ARTESINA, Italy – The U.S. Disabled Ski Team finished its World Cup season with the Artesina downhill. With a point lead in the GS and DH events, the team managed to grab second place overall with a combined 5,667 points. Austria took first with 6,008 points. Japan came in third with 4,096.

The final World Cup races were the U.S. team’s last opportunity to see where it stands against international competition as it prepares for the 2006 Paralympics beginning March 12.

The U.S. team collected seven World Cup titles throughout the season. World champion Laurie Stephens (LW 12-1; Wenham, Mass.) claimed three of those titles for herself in the sit-ski category, including the titles for super G, giant slalom, and overall. Stephani Victor (LW 12-2; Park City, Utah) grabbed another title, taking first in Slalom. She also took third in SG, third in GS and third overall.

Chris Devlin-Young (LW 12-1; Campton, N.H.) and Tyler Walker (LW 12-2; Franconia, N.H.) did not leave empty-handed, each claiming titles in the men’s sit-ski category. Devlin-Young took first in the SG as well as second overall. Walker claimed the GS title and third overall.

The final U.S. title was won by Clay Fox (LW 4; Gillette, Wyo.) for the men’s SG stand-ski category. Allison Jones (LW 2; Colorado Springs, Colo.) also earned honors in the women’s stand-ski category, finishing third in SG, third in GS and third overall.

No overall award was given for the downhill.
