Disabled WC: American Allison Jones wins South Korea slalom{mosimage}YONG PYEONG, South Korea – Slalom world champion Allison Jones (LW-2; Colorado Springs, Colo.) dove back into Disabled World Cup racing Monday, Jan. 23 by winning the standup category slalom as the World Cup schedule got under way with a Pacific Rim swing. U.S. alpine skiers had three other podiums for the opening race.

Jones, who took time a year ago for college studies, collected the fourth World Cup win of her career with an adjusted time of a 2:05.86 with Canadian Lauren Woolstencroft (LW-3/1) second in 2:06.64. Sandy Dukat (LW-2; Chicago) was fourth on a sunny day with temperatures in the upper teens.

In the men’s standup race, Monte Meier (LW-2; Park City, Utah) finished third with Clay Fox (LW-4; Gillett, Wyo.) fourth behind Japan’s Masahiko Tokai (LW-3/2).

Stephani Victor (LW-12/2; Park City, Utah) was second among women sit-skiers behind Japan’s Kuniko Obinata (LW-12/2). In the men’s sit-skiers, Chris Devlin-Young (LW-12/1; Campton, N.H.) also was second, finishing in 2:01.52 with Germany’s Martin Braxenthaler (LW-10/2) winning.

The skiers race the first of two giant slaloms and finish with a super G before moving on to Japan for more races.
