The appointment, announced by CSSA’s board of directors, took effect May 1. Pym has been vice president of the CSSA since 2001.

As managing director, Pym will be the senior staff person for the CSSA and the primary contact between the CSSA and the International Ski Federation (FIS).

In more than 30 years in the sport, Pym has been a racer, coach and ski club president. He has been an FIS technical delegate, or TD, at many World Cup events, including the downhill at Kitzbuehel, Austria. He was the alpine TD for all men’s events at the 1998 Nagano Olympics.

“The board of directors has long felt that the CSSA needs the leadership of an individual with strong management and leadership skills combined with a detailed understanding of snowsports and international winter sports organizations,” said the president of the CSSA, Chris Robinson. “We strongly believe Dave is ideally suited to this role. Dave has extensive experience in ski sports including years of volunteer work with Alpine Canada, the FIS and the IOC [International Olympic Committee], as well as 40 years in business management, law and finance.”

Pym has been involved in major construction projects, the utilities industry and insurance risk management. He was a founder, president and CEO of a major national insurance risk management and claims specialist firm.

Recently, Pym has served as the managing director of the International Specialized Risk Management Division (ISRM) of Crawford Adjusters Canada, specializing in part in sports accident, liability and risk management issues.

Pym was a major contributor to the IOC’s Olympic Results and Information Systems project (ORIS) from 1998 to 2001. He chaired Alpine Canada’s involvement in the Canadian selection for the Olympic Winter Games, and is part of Vancouver 2010’s Alpine Working Group.

Pym is now accountable to the CSSA’s board of directors, through its president, for all staff operations of the organization. He is responsible for the implementation of the CSSA’s business plan. He will run fund-raising efforts, and will be the primary point contact for CSSA with the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Organizing Committee, seeking to ensure a coordinated approach and a strong voice for the CSSA.
