It’s good to be home. At least for the Norwegian cross country ski team.

Building on the momentum gained at the World Championships in Liberec (12 medals), the Norwegian men’s cross country ski team swept the podium of a World Cup sprint race today at home in Trondheim, Norway.

They were led by cross country sprint World champion and World cup sprint title holder Ola Vigen Hattestad. Teammates Petter Northug Jr. and John Kristian Dahl followed in second and third, respectively. It was Hattestad’s seventh World Cup victory of the season. He is now ranked third overall behind Swiss Dario Cologna in first and Northug in second. Northug captured his seventh podium of the season today.

Andy Newell led the U.S. men in 23rd.

World Cup overall leader, and sprint title holder Slovenian Petra Majdic was back to her winning ways today taking the women’s race after a disappointing medal-less run at Worlds. Slovakia’s Alena Prochazkova grabbed her third career podium in second followed by World Champion Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland in third place. The win marked Majdic’s seven World Cup win of the season. Majdic now stands 111 points ahead of Kowalczyk in the overall standings with four races remaining on the World Cup schedule.

Kikkan Randall was the only American woman to compete. She finished 30th.

The World Cup action in Trondheim continues Friday with men’s and women’s mass start races.
