CORTINA D'AMPEZZO, Italy — Anja Paerson is planning to skip three races next weekend to prepare for the World Championships in her native Sweden.
Sweden's team spokeswoman, Kristina Andersson, said Paerson hadn't decided for sure to miss the races in San Sicario Jan. 26-28, but that ''right now she will go home Monday and train in Sweden.''
Two super G's and a downhill are scheduled for San Sicario.
The worlds will be held in Are, Sweden, from Feb. 3-18. Paerson will be the top attraction for local fans.
''She's feeling OK, but she's starting to focus on the World Championships,'' Andersson said.
Paerson won the overall World Cup title in 2004-05 and 2005-06 and finished second behind Janica Kostelic last year. She has struggled this season following knee surgery in the offseason.
Paerson is seventh in the current overall standings, 397 points behind leader Marlies Schild. Paerson finished sixth in a super G Friday.
''Maybe she feels she doesn't have a chance anymore for the overall title,'' Andersson said.
