Colby Carnival: UNH and Dartmouth strong in Nordic

Strong performances from UNH women and Dartmouth men in Colby Carnival Nordic events.

The UNH Wildcats seem to have the strongest women’s Nordic team in the EISA, as they won both women’s Nordic events for the second EISA carnival in a row. Annika Taylor had a heck of a weekend at the Colby College carnival, winning the 15K freestyle, and pulling off a 2nd in the 5K classic. Teammate, Anya Bean, proves to be strong this year as well, finishing 2nd in the 15K freestyle, her second podium and third top-five in the four EISA Nordic events so far this season. Although the Wildcats are performing best as a team, they have individually struggled to keep up with the consistency of UVM’s Anja Gruber, who has podiumed in every Nordic event so far, claiming two victories including the 5K classic yesterday (Jan. 27, 2013).

On the men’s side, it’s a toss up between Dartmouth and UVM for the best Nordic team so far in 2013 EISA competition. UVM bested Dartmouth for top men’s Nordic team at the St. Lawrence University carnival last week. Dartmouth came back for revenge and won both the men’s 10K classic, and the overall men’s Nordic team standings in the Colby College Carnival, with Scott Lacy, Silas Talbot, and Steven Mangan all putting in podium performances. Like his teammate Anja Gruber has done in the women’s races, Scott Patterson from UVM has shown that he’s the strongest men’s Nordic skier in EISA. He won the 20K freestyle of the Colby carnival, his third victory in the four Nordic events this year.

With an overwhelming alpine victory, UVM left the Colby Carnival with top team honors, with Dartmouth in 2nd, and UNH in third. Team scores below:
