Ryan Cochran-Siegle picked up a career first NorAm GS win and his first NorAm victory since the Aspen downhill in Feb. 2012 at Nakiska on Tuesday (March 11), then followed up the result with another win in the final GS race on the calendar Wednesday. In the final GS race of the NorAm season, Cochran-Siegle was followed on the podium by another member of the U.S. Ski Team, Brennan Rubie, who subsequently finished second in the NorAm GS standings and earned a guaranteed World Cup start in that discipline for next season. Canadian Ski Team athlete and Sochi Olympian Trevor Philp finished third in the race, and Dustin Cook, who locked up the title on Tuesday, was fourth.

Lila Lapanja secured the ladies’ NorAm slalom title with a podium finish in the final women’s race of that discipline at Canada Olympic Park. Resi Stiegler took the race victory and scored her second 6-point result in as many days, and she was followed by Canada’s Brittany Phelan in second and Lapanja third. Independent skier Hailey Duke of the U.S. finished second in the slalom standings and will also have a guaranteed World Cup start next year along with Lapanja.

For Lapanja, who finished ninth in the slalom standings just one year ago, winning this season’s title was all just part of her development plan as an athlete.

“Winning the title was one of my written goals at the beginning of the season,” noted Lapanja. “Consistency, perseverance and luck helped me claim it. I have been working hard all year and searching for that next level. My coach (Seth McCadam) and tech (Gunnar Sorensen) helped give me the tools I needed to succeed, and it was my job to apply them the best I could every race. I’m so thankful for the support I’ve been given, and this result is extremely rewarding for me.”

NorAm Finals continue for both men and women through March 16.
