Wyoming’s George Cartwright on Friday picked up his second win of the week at the Chevrolet Nordic Junior Olympics, topping the boys J2 field in the 5-kilometer classic race at Utah’s Soldier Hollow.

    Cartwright, racing for the Lander Nordic Ski Association, crossed the finish line in 12 minutes, 4.26 seconds, comfortably beating Max Durtschi of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation in second place at 12:17.10. Erik Bjornsen of the Methow Valley Nordic Team finished third in 12:20.23.  
    Cartwright had won Wednesday’s 5 km freestyle event, as had Lex Treinen of the Alaska Winter Stars in the 15 km J1 boys race. Treinen edged Aspen Valley Ski Club’s Noah Hoffman for that freestyle victory, but Hoffman turned the tables in the 10 km classic and beat second-place Treinen by 14 seconds, winning in 26:19.83. Miles Havlick of the Boulder Nordic Junior Race Team was third (26:39.07).
    Rounding out the boys’ winners was Kyle Fredrickson of Hayward, Wisconsin, in the open division 10 km. Fredrickson clocked 26:44.74, while Ben Fick of Minnesota’s Marine on the St. Croix finished second (26:58.38) and Marty Smith of the Steamboat Springs WSC — second in the freestyle 15 km — finished third (27:04.53).
    In the girls open division 5 km, Burke Mountain Academy’s Ida Sargent turned back freestyle winner Mellie Park to win by better than 18 seconds in 13:56.30. Park, of the Bridger Ski Foundation, clocked 14:14.82. Robyn Anderson of Middlebury was third in 14:14.94.
    Casey Kutz of the Methow Valley Nordic Team won the girls J1 5 km race in 13:41.72. Kate Dolan of the Bridger Ski Foundation was second (13:42.49) and Bernie Nelson of the Auburn Ski Club third (14:01.33).
    Steamboat’s Katherine Ingalls, third in the freestyle race, won the girls J2 5 km in 14:10.22. Park City Nordic Ski Team racer Elizabeth Guiney earned her second silver medal of the week, finishing in 14:17.01, and Monica Markvardsen of Black Jack finished third in 14:17.75.
