Downhill standings leader Didier Cuche let opponents know he has no intention of giving up his status at the top of the heap as he cruised to first place in a warm-up run for the Kandahar downhill, held this season at Chamonix, France.
Cuche clocked in at 1 minute 59.72 seconds, the only skier to break two minutes on the arduous Verte track at Chamonix. Frenchman Pierre-Emmanuel Dalcin was second, .85 of a second behind the Swiss veteran with Austrian Michael Walchhofer, a two-time DH title winner, was in third, fourth hundredths behind Dalcin.
Manuel Osborne-Paradis led all North Americans in eighth place. Marco Sullivan led the U.S. charge in 12th. Bode Miller, second in the current DH standings behind Cuche, ran into difficulties and finished next to last in the field of 84 starters, 22.54 seconds off the winning time.
There is one more training run scheduled for Friday for the downhill Saturday with a super combined set for Sunday.
