During training at Copper Mountain, Colo., Austrian tech skier Carmen Thalmann injured her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee and will require surgery. The 27-year-old World Cup veteran, who fell while training slalom, will head home to Austria as soon as possible. Team doctor Christian Hoser will evaluate the injury and determine a surgical plan when she arrives in Austria.

“I’ve had the same injury already on the other knee, so I know how the coming days and weeks will go,” Thalmann said. “In any case, I want to give my body the peace that it needs now to get fit again.”

She continued to say that she will try to stay positive despite the serious injury and hopes to come back to the competitive ski circuit stronger. Most recently, Thalmann finished in 10th place at the World Cup slalom in Levi, Finland. This is another tough loss for the Austrian ski team after teammate Eva-Maria Brem broke her leg earlier this month.

The next women’s World Cup tech races will be held in Killington, Vt., on Nov. 26-27.
