J-P RoyThe Canadian Cowboys took another hit in Sunday’s GS at Val d’Isere when nine-year World Cup veteran Jean-Philippe Roy sustained a right knee injury in a fall near the end of the first run.

Canadian team Medical Director Dr. Christopher Irving said Roy would be flown to Canada for a full evaluation, but indicated the preliminary reports suspected the 30 year old Roy had torn his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament.

“It wasn’t a big crash,” said men’s team head coach Paul Kristofic. “But he ejected from his skis and the injury occurred.”

The team had previously lost downhill champion John Kucera for the season when he broke his left tibia and fibula in a crash at Lake Louise.
