The Cancer Survivor Center for Health and Well-Being, newly opened as of early 2006, is hosting the Bode Miller and Olympic Friends Golf Classic at Snowmass Club Golf Course on Sept. 16.

One of the center’s clients, a breast cancer survivor, has an 11-year-old son who wanted to do what he could to fight for the cause of recovery.

“He’s a ski racer [for Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club] and a golfer,” said Kathleen Callahan, clinical director for the center. “Bode Miller is his hero, and he got a hold of his phone number. He called him to ask if he would come play in this golf tournament to benefit the center and Bode said, ‘I’m all over it. I’ll be there.’ He has been just amazing.”

Several other U.S. Olympians will play in the tournament, including aerialist and 2002 Olympic silver medalist Joe Pack.

The format for the tournament is a four-person shotgun start, and organizers aim to place an Olympian on every team.
