August Skiing in Argentina's Land Of Fire{mosimage}FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Board a plane in the middle of summer and step off the ramp in the depths of winter in Ushuaia, the world's southernmost city.

First thing you'll see is the spectacular mountains of Tierra del Fuego (Argentina's 'Land of Fire' just north of Antarctica). Plus, the region is home to the finest cross-county skiing in South America.

Skifire is the only American company to lead cross-country ski trips to the far-away region. Owner/founder/operator Matt Muir not only plans the adventures, from suggestions on air connections to hotel selections, but he's also your guide during your visit.

Muir mixes his vocation in Spanish Linguistics with his avocation of nordic skiing to produce a trip that he says is 'equal parts fun, adventure, and skiing. Skifire handles the details of your trip, leaving you to enjoy the snow and ski trails at ‘the end of the world.'' He adds, 'Moderate elevation and the southerly latitude makes a June through September season normal, the trails are only 5-35 minutes from town, and all of them are below 1200 feet so there's no altitude problem.'

Katie Gryskiewicz, a student from Edina, Minnesota went on the 2003 trip and says, "Skiing in August, awesome coaching, a 21 k race as a grand finale, going to "the end of the world' speaking some Spanish, and all this with a bunch of other skiers. Does it get any better!?"

Joe Feller, an Arizona State University law professor, continues to consider doing the trip for a second time and says, "Matt Muir put together an outstanding trip…we would have never visited without his help. I would recommend the trip to anyone with a taste for travel and a desire to ski during the [northern] summer."

Skifire is now in its third year and has refined its arrangement of services including round-trip, daily ground transportation between the hotel and the trails, daily grooming of the trails, continual hints and help with the language, and 24/7 personal or cell phone access to your guide. He offers constant advice on topics from local customs to where to eat, all based on his experience or the recommendations of his local friends and insiders.

The 2005 trip dates are August 12th-22nd and client fees include lodging, waxing facilities, race entry to the 7/21k Marchablanca on August 21st, guided orientation to the city and region, ground transportation, and more. Options include pre-arranged downhill skiing at the regions brand-new alpine area as well. Air travel can be arranged through a partner travel agency.
