April 17 and 18: Nation’s largest alpine USSA race{mosimage}In what its organizers say is the oldest and largest alpine race in North America, 400 to 500 competitors will be on hand for the Loveland Derby, set for April 17 and 18. The race attracts racers from as far away as Alaska and Florida to compete in the final sanctioned race of the season in Colorado.

Varsity ski team members for the University of Colorado and the
University of Denver will be setting the pace.

The 44th Annual Loveland Derby will be held at the Loveland Valley on four
courses spread across three trails. Contestants must be licensed USSA
members of any age.

The Loveland Derby is an all-day, all-volunteer initiative. Many athletes compete to lower their total points and obtain a better seed for next season’s early races, while others have been known to show up in costumes celebrating the end of another long racing season.
