Andy Clurman leaves Ski and Skiing to take a job with his former boss{mosimage}Andy Clurman, president and publisher of Mountain Sports Media — which publishes Ski and Skiing and owns Warren Miller Entertainment — has left that company to take a job as group publisher and chief operating officer with Active Interest Media (AIM) and its magazine publishing division, Cruz Bay Publishing. AIM is headed up by Skip Zimbalist, formerly Clurman’s boss when Zimbalist was CEO at Times Mirror Magazines, the former owner of Ski and Skiing.

Clurman will be responsible for the operational and overall sales management of AIM’s recently acquired special interest titles, including Black Belt, Vegetarian Times, Better Nutrition, Southwest Art and Log Home Design Ideas. Zimbalist, AIM’s chairman, will oversee the Garlinghouse Company, publisher and supplier of home plan magazines and home plans.

Clurman, who is expected to stay with Mountain Sports Media through the end of October, is a senior vice president for Time4Media, a division of AOL/Time Warner. He’s president and publisher of Mountain Sports Media and president of TransWorld Publications. The companies publish Ski, Skiing, Freeze and TransWorld Snowboarding, among other titles.

Before joining Time4Media, Clurman worked at Times Mirror where he and Zimbalist worked together on several corporate initiatives, including the launch of the Outdoor Life Network. Clurman’s 19-year career in ski publishing began at Skiing, where he was a sales representative, region sales manager, marketing director and finally publisher. He’s a graduate of Rutgers College and holds an MBA from the University of Colorado.
