VAIL, Colorado—Vail’s Eagle Bahn gondola car #15 sports a new 2015 logo and the skies over Vail and Beaver Creek Mountains are set to erupt in color February 2 as the two resorts mark the two-year countdown to the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.

More precisely, the 7 p.m. start of the fireworks coincides with the scheduled start time of the event’s Opening Ceremony as Vail and Beaver Creek officially welcome the world back to the Vail Valley for the third time.

“With Schladming on the verge of hosing the 2013 World Championships,” explained Ceil Folz, president of the Vail Valley Foundation and president of the 2015 World Championships Organizing Committee, “we are the community that is literally in the gate now.  We wanted to provide our residents and guests with a dramatic and colorful reminder that two years from now, it’s our turn.  The 2015 logo on the gondola car will be a reminder to skiers and snowboarders every day.”

Folz leads a Vail Valley delegation to Austria February 4-17 to attend the 2013 Championships, accepting the FIS flag at Schladming’s Closing Ceremonies to signal the transfer of World Championships responsibility to Vail and Beaver Creek.  In addition, various members of the 2015 Organizing Committee will also be on hand to study different components of the event.

The 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships will mark the third time that Vail and Beaver Creek have played host to the prestigious international event, combining with the 1989 and 1999 World Championships.

Scheduled from February 2-15 of 2015, the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail and Beaver Creek are expected to showcase athletes from over 70 nations, with an estimated 750 million worldwide television viewers and an onsite media and broadcast entourage of approximately 1,500 members.
