10 things you might not know about Ted Ligety1.) He likes to ski powder (see photo).

2.) At 14, he broke his hand and didn’t tell his parents because he was worried they wouldn’t let him ski.

3.) At 16, Tomba told him “maybe someday I will see you in Europa Cup races.”

4.) He was the 2004 Sprint/Ski Racing Junior of the Year, and he also attended Ski Racing’s Top Performance Race Camp on Mount Hood as a kid.

5.) His pink goggles were painted by Corey Burgess at Northeast Collision Center in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.

6.) The last book he read was ‘Fight Club’ by Chuck Palahniuk, the last movie he saw was ‘Snatch,” his favorite band right now is Bloc Party and his favorite race is Schladming: ‘It’s a big stadium, and so many people the whole way down. All the horns going on. There’s 60,000 people. It’s crazy. It’s sweet atmosphere.’

7.) He foreran at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and he foreran a women’s Europa Cup last month.

8.) At his victory news conference, he was asked if he had ever skied drunk, and he said he had not.

9.) His favorite sports memory (before Feb. 14, 2006) was ‘probably when the Utah Jazz made the finals for the first time with John Stockton’s three-pointer in the last second.’

10.) His least favorite sports moment was ‘probably when the Utah Jazz lost to the Bulls by about 40 points the second time around.’
