Academic Strengths: At Okemo Mountain School we facilitate each student’s individual course curricula from his or her sending school. Our goal is to ensure that when our students return to their sending schools they are in sync with their classmates and have covered all of the same material in the same manner. Typically our students even return ahead in their coursework and with a deeper understanding of the course content covered. To achieve this goal of seamless transitions between OMS and sending schools, all of our students’ curriculum plans are completely individualized and they enjoy a low faculty to student ratio of 1:2. We facilitate a wide range of courses, including AP and college prep courses, foreign languages, visual arts and music courses.
Okemo Mountain School’s faculty is comprised of many individuals who have taught at OMS for over 5 years. Our teachers enjoy working with a variety of curricula and the opportunity to connect with each student individually. With an emphasis on meeting the individual student’s needs, our teachers strive to provide enrichment or remediation in addition to delivering their sending school course content. Most faculty members hold a Master’s or PhD in their field of study. Our Dean of Academics is Leslie Cassano.
Head Coaches: Our Athletic Program Director and Head Alpine Coach is Bruce Johnston. Luke Bonang is our head snowboard coach and freestyle skiing is overseen by Mike Bruno.
Coaching Staff: Alpine Ski Racing: Bruce Johnston, Peter Cornish, Ric Mackey, Marc Stuart, George Abraham, Chris Hurka; Snowboard: Luke Bonang, Jerry Tucker; Freestyle: Mike Bruno
Notable Alumni: Julia Ford, Mattie Ford, Hannah Teter, Shayne Pospisil, Kevin Pearce, Jen Hudak
Training Facilities: Our student-athletes train on-snow at Okemo Mountain Resort just minutes from our school. We have a dedicated training trail, which is serviced by a triple lift, providing our student-athletes the opportunity for productive training sessions with little time spent waiting in line or riding lifts. Okemo Mountain also generously provides us with other trails for training purposes when the goals of our training sessions require different types of terrain, such as for full length SG training. The Okemo Mountain parks and pipe also offer world class training to snowboard and freestyle students. Our students also have access to great dryland training facilities both at our school and at Okemo Mountain Resort’s Spring House.
Comments: Okemo Mountain School is a community of highly motivated individuals in which leadership, hard work, and respect are valued attributes. A strong sense of family creates the foundation upon which our school is built. The goals of each of our student-athletes are recognized and fostered as they seek to excel in both academics and athletics.
