Cross Country: Bauer, Kowalczyk take wins in Otepaeae

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendThe Czech Republic’s Lukas Bauer won a 15K classic World Cup race today in Otepaeae, Estonia. He was joined on the podium by Sweden’s Johan Olsson in second and French Vincent Vittoz in third. The win was Bauer’s ninth career victory, his  first of the year. He now takes the seventh spot in the World Cup standings.


The Czech Republic’s Lukas Bauer won a 15K classic World Cup race today in Otepaeae, Estonia. He was joined on the podium by Sweden’s Johan Olsson in second and French Vincent Vittoz in third. The win was Bauer’s ninth career victory, his  first of the year. He now takes the seventh spot in the World Cup standings.

World Cup leader Dario Cologna of Switzerland finished fifth.

On the women’s side, it was Poland’s Justyna Kowalczyk taking the 10K-win by 25 seconds, for back to back victories after winning in Whistler last weekend. Overall leader Finland’s Anio-Kaisa Saarinen took second followed by teammate Virpi Kuitunen. Kowalczyk now stands in third in the overall standings behind Kuitunen in second.

Kikkan Randall led the American team finishing 33rd.

Races continue tomorrow in Otepaeae with men’s and women’s sprints.
