VIENNA, Austria — Austrian nordic combined skier Alfred Rainer remained in an artificial coma Friday at an Innsbruck hospital after suffering severe head injuries from a paragliding accident.
Rainer crashed 20 meters above the ground and suffered a head injury, a bruised lung and broken bones in his legs on Thursday, the Austrian Ski Federation said Friday. The accident occurred in his hometown of Maria Alm in the province of Salzburg, the federation said.
The 20-year-old Rainer won two bronze medals at the junior world championships last year in Tarvisio, Italy.
