Chevrolet Freestyle JOs: Aerials/dual moguls
The weather in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, created some challenges for the aerial athletes at the Chevrolet Freestyle Junior Olympics as a steady rain turned to snow between rounds, forcing some athletes to back down their degree of difficulty and making getting the speed right on a changing run troublesome.
Alison Lee launched and landed a double lay-tuck, the only woman to compete with a double flip, to claim the win over Jilian Kazley and Alicia Cavanaugh.
Matt Flesher stuck a lay-full to open the men's competition and followed up with a full-full for the gold belt buckle over Lucas Constenious, who completed with the same tricks but did not land as cleanly. Dustin Schwartz took third with an off-axis 900 and a 1080 grab.
In dual moguls Jeremy Cota doubled up his gold haul, outskiing Zak Watkins in the final. Third went to Abraham Maynard, skiing on his home course. Summit County skiers swept the top two placings in the women's event with Whitney Henceroth winning over Rebecca Miller. Brittany Loweree posted third. Both Cota and Henceroth now head to Junior World Championship competition in Airolo, Switzerland.
