Stamp was a promising J3 out of Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club who had recently been named to compete at the Topolino Trials, (qualifying races for the World Games in February) and had competed at the International Whistler Cup this past April, finishing seventh in slalom.
Stamp was freeskiing on Vail's Golden Peak trail just prior to the start of a slalom race when she struck a resort snowmobile carrying two Vail employees who were working the race. She was wearing a helmet when she hit the snowmobile, according the a statement from the Colorado State Patrol, which investigates fatal ski accidents. This is the second deadly accident that has occurred at Vail in week. (Snowboarder Michael Combs died from a seizure on December 13.) A candlelight vigil for Stamp is scheduled on Monday night (December 20), at 6:00 p.m., at Steamboat Springs' Howelsen Hill.
