A total of 148 skiers, 74 men and 74 women, from 21 colleges and universities will take part in this year’s NCAA Skiing Championships, hosted by Middlebury College March 6-9 at the Middlebury College Snow Bowl and the Carroll and Jane Rikert Nordic Center.
At ncaa.com, you can read the complete list of competitors and the schools represented.
Skiers qualify for the championships based on season-long competition in the Eastern and Western regions in alpine, and in the Eastern, Western and Central regions in nordic. The University of Vermont, defending NCAA champion, will be the only Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association school to field a full 12-athlete team during this year’s championships. Joining the Catamounts with full squads (three men and three women in both nordic and alpine disciplines) are six schools from the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association: the University of Alaska-Anchorage, the University of Colorado, the University of Denver, Montana State University, the University of New Mexico and the University of Utah.
Three EISA schools came close: Dartmouth and the University of New Hampshire will each be represented by 11 athletes, and Middlebury College by nine.
Among this year’s qualifiers are several former NCAA champions, such as alpine racers Rebecca Nadler of Harvard (women’s giant slalom, 2012) and Kate Ryley of UVM (women’s slalom, 2012), and nordic skiers Sam Tarling of Dartmouth, Erik Soderman of Northern Michigan and Miles Havlick of Utah.
This year’s skiing championships will be webcast live on ncaa.com.
