What to Watch at World Champs
With the start of the World Championships in Schladming right around the corner (the first race is women’s super G on Feb. 5, after the opening ceremony on Feb. 4) it seems a good time to reflect on this season and on last season’s results in the World Cup Finals on the Schladming tracks, and speculate on who might medal.
The biggest number put up this season has been Tina Maze’s 15 podiums. In 23 races, that’s more than a 65 percent success rate, making her the saf- est bet out there. Her only Schladming podium last season came in downhill, one of five she owns in the discipline.
The second biggest podium number belongs to Marcel Hirscher, with 11. In
addition, he got three podiums at Schladming last season, including one in super G that was truly unexpected.
