Bode Miller, the number one ski racer on the planet, announced Monday from San Diego he would not finish out the World Cup season.
Miller reported the ankle he injured playing volleyball "is still bothering me," and has elected to continue treatments and allow it some time to heal. He said, in his Universalsports blog, the injury had "become a chronic injury because I skied on it for so long with it was injured and it never had a chance to heal."
The injury occurred Dec. 12 and he was racing (DH training) on it again four days later.
With a record matching three Olympic medals at Vancouver (for male alpine skiers) Miller said he had accomplished all he could have expected to during the season.
"My goal at the beginning of the season was to get ready for the Olympics and to win races in February. I just sort of focused on that and I did that. … I feel like I accomplished everything I wanted to this season so it's nice to just be able to relax in San Diego and hang out with Dace," he said, referring to his daughter Dacey.
In a similarity with last season Miller said he has not made any decisions about extending his career beyond this season. Last season he made a late decision to return to the U.S. Ski Team and continue his career. He found the inspiration he needed to put down the kind of racing runs he want to be known for at the time the most people were watching by claiming the Olympic medals. Now, if he is to continue, he will need to reinvent ways to motivate himself.
"At some point, I'll sit down with Sasha (U.S. head men's coach Rearick) and see where we're at and what kind of program we can put together," Miller said, "and I'll make a plan from there. My decision will depend on what we come up with and what sponsors think. A lot of different factors will come into play."

Yo ! Yo ! Super Mega Master Barney from Farwest Land !
Are you a Director of all that, in a Cosmetic Company... ?
The way you handle de facts... mixing Medals with Race Wins and Titles... ( the way it suits you.. )
Bad School mark in interpretation ? Never sad i hate anyone..
I love and admire them all.. And i'm not italian...
I understand that you must to be fired up with Bode's achievments, he's a great skier, and the best you have to offer... Bad luck for you, he is only the 10th or 15th of all times great in alpine skiing....
After all alpine skiing is only the 47th most popular sport in that far side of the world...
Come on Super Barney, try to think a little, not just automatic reflex thinking...
And the best skier on the Planet from today is...
Carlo Janka !!! Olympic Champion, World Champion and World Cup Overall Champion... He is not from Millwaukee, i can asure you..
So Long boy.. ( Super boy.. i mean.. )

Miller versus Raich
Hi ! Super Barney
You must be a great sports fan ! But definitly not in Alpine Ski... Benny Raich has a better curriculum than Bode. You just have to check it.. Olympics, World Cup, World Championships you name it... Sorry...
And i am not french... ( by the way France has far more titles in alpine ski than the USA... Check it again... )

on this planet, the only thing that matters is the olympics. how many medals have your guys won?
you must be from France.
Number One Ski Racer On The Planet?
Which planet are you referring to? On planet Earth, the skiers in contention for that designation are Janka, Raich, and Svindal.
