Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) has broken ground on a massive project that will eventually result in an entirely new western Maine campus.

The first step of the CVA rebuilding project is a new academic center planned to house 13 classrooms, two science labs, a music room and art studio with space remaining for student study space and administrative facilities.

The ground breaking ceremony, held June 1, also marked the beginning of the second phase of a $7 million New Campus fundraising campaign, launched last October.

CVA was founded in 1983 and is located in Carrabassett Valley near the Sugarloaf ski resort.

Some of America's top skiers and snowboarders through the years have attended the academy, including Bode Miller, Seth Westcott and Kirsten Clark.
