Lindsey VonnThe U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) yesterday (April 10) named four-time World Cup overall champion Lindsey Vonn as its Female Athlete of the month for March.

Vonn wrapped up her World Cup season in March by hauling in her 11th and 12th victories of the season on her way to defending her downhill, super combined and super G titles as well as reclaiming her overall championship. Vonn holds the American record with 16 World Cup titles.

The 2010 downhill Olympic gold medalist also set a new record for total points scored in one season with 1980 points.

With 53 victories, Vonn has won more World Cup races than any American. Among the women, only Annemarie Moser-Proell of Austria (62) and Vreni Schneider of Switzerland (55) are ahead of Vonn. On the men’s said, just two men have more: Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden (86) and Hermann Maier of Austria (54).

Vonn has won the USOC Award a total of five times: February 2008, March 2008, February 2009 and last in March of 2009.
