Japan's Akito Watabe took his fourth career victory today (Mar. 9) in the men’s World Cup Nordic Combined at the Holmenkollen in Oslo, Norway, the first event of the season finale. Watabe won in front of  Norway’s Mikko Kokslien and Austria’s Bernhard Gruber.

The World Cup leader Frenchman Jason Lamy Chappuis came in twenty-third and lost ninety-two points against Watabe. With just one competition to go, his overall advantage has diminished to seventy-two points.

"It was a great day for me and I am pleaseed to win on such a traditional venue like Oslo." Said Watabe."Tomorrow, I will try to achieve  something what seemed unreasonable weeks ago."

If Watabe wins tomorrow and Lamy Chappuis places third or less, Watabe will take the overall title.

American Bryan Fletcher continued to lead the U.S. team finishing in fourteenth.. Billy Demong came from well back in the jump to finish 19th. To honor the 120th anniversary of the nordic combined at Holmenkollen, tomorrow’s race will consist of a traditional format with two jumps and a 15k.

“It's kind of cool to do traditional format. We haven't done it in a long time. Tomorrow is the last day of the season and we always like competing in Oslo.” siad U.S. Head Coach Dave Jarrett.
